FAQ
WHAT IS NANO HAIRSTROKE TECHNIQUE?
Nano hairstrokes are fine, natural looking lines done to imitate brow hairs using a tattoo machine. Using a super fine needle I can create hair patterns to match and fill out your existing eyebrows, the look is very natural, and can be done to create a fluffy laminated look or a neater more manicured brow. Using the machine means it is gentler on the skin that microblading, and is suitable for all skin types. As with all cosmetic tattoos, results vary, but most people will find it lasts 1-4 years before a refresh is needed. Shapes and colours used are fully customisable for each individual client. It is recommended that after your initial appointment you have a ‘Touch Up’ appointment 4-8 weeks later, this is to check how they have healed, that you are happy with the shape, and to go over or fill in any areas that need it. This is true for all brow tattoo techniques.
WHAT IS MICROBLADING?
Microblading is a tattooing technique in which a small handheld tool made of several tiny needles is used to add semi-permanent pigment into the skin to create fine, hair stroke lines. It replicates the look of eyebrow hair patterns and looks very natural, and so it is a very popular technique. Some skin types are less suited to microblading than others and the results can vary, oilier skin types will tend to fade quicker and blur more than normal/dry skin for example, however it usually lasts anywhere from 1-3 years for most people.
WHAT IS POWDER BROW TECHNIQUE?
You may have heard this technique referred to as powder brows, ombre brows, pixel misting, or shading. It is a technique done using a tattoo machine, with a super fine needle/s, to create a soft and powdery solid shape (that is often blended out at the head of the brow). It creates a more ‘makeup look’ finish, as though you have filled your brows with a powder. It is suitable for all skin types and lasts in the skin a bit longer than microblading.
WHAT IS COMBINATION BROW TECHNIQUE?
Combination technique is a combination of both nano strokes/microblading and shading. Usually with hairstrokes done at the head of the brow to create a very natural look and blending down to more shading towards the tail, however I can create a brow design for each individual to suit the look you are after.
WHAT IS LIP BLUSH?
Lip Blushing is another type of cosmetic tattoo where a wash of colour is tattooed into your lips to enhance the shape of your natural lips. It is perfect for those who have naturally light lips or who have colour loss towards the edges of the lips and want to achieve a fuller look without fillers, and also for those who want to ditch the constant application of makeup.
DOES GETTING A COSMETIC TATTOO HURT?
Everybody has a different tolerance level for pain, but the short answer is ‘not really’. I use numbing cream before your procedure and top-up during the procedure as well. Most people find it very tolerable, and say that they feel slight pressure rather than any discomfort. It can feel a bit ‘scratchy’ at times, and if you start to feel uncomfortable you can let me know and I can usually top up with some more numbing.
HOW LONG WILL MY TATTOO LAST? IS IT PERMANENT?
Eyebrow tattooing is semi-permanent. The pigment does not go as deep into the skin as a traditional tattoo, and the pigments are designed to be metabolised by the body over time. Microblading usually lasts 1-3 years on most people, however results vary due to a number of reasons such as skin type, lifestyle, age, and how it is looked after. Machine work (Nano and Shading techniques) usually lasts a bit longer; pigment is placed slightly deeper into the skin than microblading, with less trauma, so it usually lasts 2-4 years for most people, but again results vary from person to person.
Lip blush tattoo does last longer, generally not needing a touch up for a few years.
CAN I GET COSMETIC TATTOOING DONE OVER A PREVIOUS TATTOO?
It depends on a few things such as how faded it is, the amount of scar tissue, and the shape that is left. I would require you to send photos or come for a consult to see if it will be possible to go over. Sometimes you may need to get the previous tattoo lightened or removed before going ahead with a new tattoo.
HOW LONG DO I NEED TO ALLOW FOR MY APPOINTMENT?
Timing varies but generally I ask people to allow 2-3 hours for your initial visit, this allows plenty of time for consultation, numbing, mapping your brows and making sure you are 100% happy with the shape, and of course tattoo time.
IS ANYONE ABLE TO GET THEIR BROWS TATTOOED?
There are certain things that can mean cosmetic tattooing isn’t suitable for you, such as certain medical conditions or medications, skin conditions or your skin type. Your skin might also be more suited to certain types of tattooing than others, which may limit the type of styles that will work for you. All of this can be discussed over the phone or we can book a consultation, and I will also always get you to fill out a medical history form on arrival just to be certain the procedure is right for you. If you are thinking of booking in and have any concerns regarding this, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we can discuss it!
Please also refer to the PRE-TREATMENT CONSIDERATIONS page and the BEFORE & AFTER CARE form for more information and some do’s and don’t’s prior to your appointment.
